A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE CARTER FAMILY
The furthest back we go so far is to December 1, 1858 in Washington County Arkansas where we find my Great Great Grandmother LYDIA (Andrews?) CARTER selling 40 acres to A.M. Sheriff in Section 10 of Township 15N, 33W. Then again I find her selling another 40 acres on February 25,1870 to G.W. Fordney in Section 15 of Township 15N, 33W. On all the documents I have found her on there is no mention of her husband and whos name I need desperately. In the 1860 Census of Illinois Township in Washington County Arkansas I find her listed as "LIDU CARTER", age 50 with her son "JAMES" THOMPSON CRAY CARTER age 16. There was 2 farm laborer's and 1 sevant with them named Josiah Burton age 51, Carsium? Night age 20, and Belsu Chancy age 63. James was musterd into the Army on July 21, 1864 at fayetteville Arkansas and served under Thomas Brooks in Company L, 1st Regiment of the Arkansas Calvery. Then on August 23, 1865 he was musterd out because of an illness which he spent time in a hospital in Fayetteville. Soon after selling thier property in 1870 Lydia, James, and Lydia's daughter ELVIRA "RUTH" (Carter) EDDLEMON left for California for which they arrived in the San Joaquin Valley (Lodi, CA.) in 1871. There was many other people in the wagon train including the JOHN HENRY POPE family and Ruth's daughter LAURA VICTORIA ELMS from a previous marriage to a John G. Elms.

BEFORE YOU GO.....
*****SPECIAL NOTICE***** On March 23, 2003 this genealogy web site will no longer be here due to the fact that I have had this up for over 5 years and I have found information on just about everyone that I have been researching. The only lines I'm interested in researching now are my "Carter" and "Adams" lines which I believe I wont find with this site up and I would rather use my money towards other avenues of my research instead of paying for this site. I would like to thank everyone that has found a link to my family tree and to wish you all Happy Genealogy Hunting. Tracey Carter-Dunlap
